The King - November 2000

Thinking of Christ the King, I imagined a small hamlet hidden in the mountains; a young boy running through the village shouting, "the King is coming."
Thundering hooves, banners flying; a barefoot girl has only time to grab a handful of wildflowers and tuck a stray hair behind her ear. Will the King accept such a simple offering?
He's a good King, a wise King; not sitting afar off on a golden throne, but come to hear his people. Hay bales are arranged and draped with cloth. The king sits; the people gather...children, dogs and a stray chicken.
Just. Merciful. Attentively he listens to the smallest concern. Wisely he considers the problem of Jergeson's cow ambling into Dominic's field.
Step forward. Kind eyes widen in delight at the fist full of flowers. "And what, He says with great love, "can I do for you?"

BookaDay: 6 BookaDay offerings went out, with a little hiccup in the middle. BookaAlmostDay. Around 30 people responded positively. When I do it again, most likely in January, I'll only send to the folk who asked for it.

Browser Memberships: Since books come in at 10 times the rate they go out, we are offering Browser Memberships for the year 2001. For the $20 membership fee, Local Browsers get two free used under $5 books every month. 2 free under 5. Non locals who use their Computer Browsers, get free shipping on any book order over $5. Whether your part of the under 5 set or the over 5 set, it's a great deal. Give a Browser membership for a gift.

Books for Unbelievers: Jesus spoke in parables and stories can often touch and soften hearts that are allergic to more doctrinal approaches. Todd Sinelli's One Lit Torch is a picture book format collection of little stories, like the one about the child throwing starfish back into the ocean. Lovely drawings by Deanna Molinaro. $14.95

Heartsease from Phillips Brooks is a little early 1900 book of gems set in lovely fields of colored pansies. Published by Cupples & Leon Co. in New York. The white leather cover is a bit stained, but could be cleaned up. The text and illustrations are in pristine condition. The one other copy I found on the internet is listed at $122. This one is a newsletter special, $20. A quote: "Not merely a Voice to be heard, but a Friend to be loved, a Shepherd to be followed, a Bread to be eaten--so does the Christ of the Gospels present Himself in word and sacrament and every presentation of His personality."

Mostly Closed: I'm going to Colorado for my father's memorial service the first week of December. Some loyal staff will be opening the doors sporadically. Call before you come down. I will be checking my email. Back December 7th.

Be Merry & Bright.
Blessings,
